Description

Every now and then, I will make fake box covers for games that never existed, and this an idea that's been floating around in my head for a few years now, but never made until this very moment. And this one is intended to be more humorous and not so serious.

If there was any company in the 16-bit era that accomplished the so bad, it's funny feat with the full motion video craze, it was Tom Zito and his company Digital Pictures. From the early to mid 90's, the company produced several AMV-based games that were either really bad, or silly yet entertaining. One series of titles they produced were the notorious "Make My Video" series. And if you are a frequent enthusiast of the Sega CD like I am, there's no way you couldn't have heard of them. Basically each installment focuses on a different artist or group. You pick one of three songs from the artist or group's catalogue, and then you have to work with a group of people to make a music video with the song you picked. No matter HOW HARD you tried, it was pretty much impossible to impress these people. They either say it sucked, or that it was just okay and needed some work. And both results give you either a Game Over, or a chance to try again. It's like trying to capture a squirrel out in the wild. I've been familiar with the series since it first made it's debut in 1992, but never tried one of these blunders until 2003 when I rediscovered the Sega CD and was just curious to see what one of them looked like and bought one for a low price, which was the INXS one, because of all the artists that had an entry in the series, INXS was the only group that was actually great. Anyhoo, a few years back I had read that they had plans to make other entries in the series besides the ones they released, and I had always been thinking about how funny and how stupid it would have been if they made one for Vanilla Ice, because I could totally see them making an entry in the series for him. This would be like bread and butter in terms of the so bad, it's funny category of things. Vanilla Ice, a brief superstar of the early 90's with hysterically awful songs like Ice Ice Baby and Rollin' In My 5.0. The Make My Video series, a pointless series of Sega CD games where you make music videos in a vain attempt to try and impress people in the games of the series and pretty much always screwing up no matter what.
